Beni Ourain Rugs

Big news- David and I are in the process of buying our first house! We are so so excited to have a place of our own, and I absolutely cannot wait to start decorating!

I've been doing a lot of online shopping recently, even though I know I should wait to start buying anything until we are actually moved in and can figure out exactly what we need. One item I've had my eye on for awhile though is a new rug. A few months ago I was contacted by the website Sukhi and discovered their great collection of quality handmade rugs.

Sukhi Rugs source their designs from India, Morocco, Nepal and Turkey. Each country has a unique style of rug and an interesting story behind the design and the production of the rugs. Sukhi Rugs ensures that all of the talented people who make their rugs have great pay and excellent working conditions, so you can feel good about shopping from this site and knowing that you are truly supporting the local artisans.

I instantly fell in love with the Beni Ourain Rugs from Morocco. According to the site, "Traditional Berber rugs were made by Beni Ourain tribes. They lived deep in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains. The Atlas Mountains are in the exact region where special sheep can be found. These smaller sheep are an ancient breed. They produce the excellent high quality wool that makes Beni Ourain rugs so special. Even today, they roam the rugged Middle Atlas Mountains in Morocco. Our Sukhi rugs are handcrafted from this special breed of sheep." The rugs are made 100% from sheep wool and are 100% undyed. The rugs are generally made by women who creatively infuse elements from their lives into the designs.

Check out the Beni Ourain rugs, and the rest of the rugs on the Sukhi Rugs site, and feel good about shopping for a cause!
