To Do: January 2017

I think there are two ways to look at the month of January: first, as a time to relax after the holidays and get back into the swing of everyday life. It is still cold outside, and it is the first full month of winter, so it is a great excuse to kick back, cuddle up and recuperate from a busy December. On the other hand, some people take January head on, using the start of the New Year to start fresh, set resolutions, and stay busy. Whether you are looking for relaxing events, or energizing ways to accomplish your goals, here are some great activities taking place this month in Portland.

Reel Music Festival

January 13-February 5 at the Portland Art Museum. The Reel Music Festival is a film festival celebrating great films that focus on music as a central theme. There is plenty of time to check it out, so head over to the Portland Art Museum for a fun, entertaining and very musical time!

Bourbon & Bacon Fest

January 14 at OMSI. OMSI (the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry) hosts an "OMSI After Dark" night once a month for their over 21 fans. January focuses on two of the greatest sins out there- Bourbon & Bacon. Make sure to buy your tickets in advance and arrive early!

Portland Bridal Show

January 14-15 at the Oregon Convention Center. This bridal show offers a fashion show, food tasting, demonstrations and tons of vendors. There will be great discounts offered and lots of advice and experts on hand. If you are planning a wedding, or will be in the future, this is a great opportunity!

Rose City Classic Dog Show

January 18-22 at the Portland Expo Center. I don't know much about showing dogs at a show or what exactly to look for, but I love dogs and think getting to check out all the animals would be a great way to spend the day!!

Chocolate & Wine Festival

January 20-22 at the Oregon Convention Center. Who doesn't love chocolate and wine? Sample chocolate (and buy your favorites) from tons of great companies, have a drink from a great local winery, and stay for the demonstrations and educational presentations.

Portland Renovation & Landscaping Show

January 27-29 at the Memorial Coliseum. As a Realtor, it is important for me to stay up to date with design trends and know about all of the cool new renovations and landscaping advancements. As a home design lover, I can't get enough of looking at beautiful homes! This show is not only a great place to get ideas, it is also a good opportunity to meet local contractors and distributors to help you start your newest design project.

Chinese New Year

January 29-February 6 at Lan Su Chinese Garden. Learn more about the Chinese New Year at this two week event at Lan Su Chinese Garden. Events range from dances and storytelling to crafts and demonstrations. Finally end the celebration with the lantern viewing, a can't miss, gorgeous event.
