The Homes of Charleston
The weather here in Portland has turned dark and stormy, so it has been a nice break looking at all of these gorgeous tropical homes, palm trees and pictures of nice weather!! I loved the homes of Charleston for many reasons, one of which is because they are so different than the homes in Portland! One of the things that blew my mind about the homes there is how old they are- in Portland an old home is considered around 1900, but in Charleston many of the homes are 200+ years old!
The architecture in Charleston is absolutely stunning, consisting of a mix of East Coast homes with brick and ivy to bright, colorful homes that would look at home somewhere in the Tropics. Many of the homes look small on the outside, but if you look down the alley next door you can see that they stretch back a whole block! This is because the price or the taxes used to be based on the amount of the house that was fronting the street, so they made them long and narrow!
