San Diego
Every year my girlfriends and I like to take a trip together somewhere fun and new. Some past destinations have been Las Vegas, Arizona and LA. This year we decided on San Diego- we were looking for somewhere warm, by the beach, and not too far away. I'm incredibly happy with our choice because the entire trip was amazing!
We rented an Airbnb in Ocean Beach, and the house was adorable- 2 bedrooms and a large living room and kitchen. The best part was the amazing back yard, complete with multiple sitting areas, tables and a large garden. We spent as much time out back as possible! The neighborhood that we stayed in was amazing as well, and we spent most mornings strolling around and admiring the Mediterranean architecture and beautiful gardens.
On Thursday, after a delicious Mexican lunch, we spent most of the afternoon at Ocean Beach, exploring the pier and sunbathing on the beach. The weather was beautiful the entire time we were there, and it was so nice to get to spend time catching up with our group of best friends. For dinner we headed to Wonderland Ocean Pub, a fun upscale sports bar right on the beach where we could watch both the amazing sunset and the ducks game.
Friday morning, after exploring the neighborhood and breakfast at home, we took an Uber to Pacific Beach, about 15 minutes north of where we were staying. We spent a lot of time laying on the beach, and when we couldn't take the heat anymore we went to Amplified Ale Works for lunch. Although I didn't try the beer, I am OBSESSED with the food there! It is not often you find a Mediterranean Brewery, and even less frequent for one to be so delicious!
After lunch we walked along the boardwalk to Mission Beach. Mission Beach was definitely a little more touristy- the beach was jam packed and there were a lot of tourist shops lining the boardwalk. I'm glad we didn't spend too much time there! We decided to get out of the sun and head home for a bit before dinner.
My friend found us an amazing place for dinner and drinks Friday night. We went to Bang Bang, a sushi restaurant/bar/crazy nightclub. We started off with a punch bowl (my first!!!) and sushi to share. The food was delicious, and it was so much fun drinking the punch bowl. Once the restaurant side of things closed we had an amazing time listening to the DJ and dancing our hearts out! One of the other big draws of the restaurant was the Ryan Gosling themed bathroom, which we were obviously all obsessed with taking pictures in.
After a wild night out we needed some recovery food Saturday morning, so we went to brunch at OB Warehouse in Ocean Beach. We shared a few bottles of mimosas, the Sofa-King Delicious cinnamon roll, and pigged out on our meals. Saturday afternoon we all split up, and I went into Little Italy with one friend. We are both in love with the beer at Ballast Point, and the brewery did not disappoint. All of the beers looked so so good, but I'm bummed that I didn't get to try even more! It just gives me another excuse to come back to San Diego and keep my eye out in Portland. We also walked around the marina and around Little Italy, which was a perfect way to spend the afternoon. We met back up Saturday evening for dinner at Pizza Point in Ocean Beach, one of my new favorite pizza restaurants. The personal pizza was amazing, and even gave enough food for leftovers!
I have a friend who lives in San Diego and works at the Music Box, an event venue, so we were lucky enough to get to go see her and see a show Saturday night! The venue had a fun, upscale vibe, and I liked that it was big enough (3 stories) to either focus on the music, or hang out with friends. It was great catching up with my friend too, and getting to go to another part of San Diego.
We unfortunately had to pack up and leave our little slice of paradise Sunday morning, but I am so thankful that I have family and friends in San Diego and can't wait for my next visit!
