Read MoreI've been wanting to go to Astoria for months and months as a day trip from either Portland or Manzanita. It is only about an hour from Manzanita, and about 1.5 hours drive from Portland. Astoria is located right off the coast on the Oregon side of the Columbia River and is the cutest little town full of historic shops, restaurants, breweries and sight-seeing.

Read MoreI have a lot of history with Santa Barbara. My dad lived there most of his life, and his mom stayed there until just a few years ago, when she moved with my aunt and uncle to Berkley. My mom is from Palos Verdes but moved up to Santa Barbara to attend UCSB for college. She met my dad there, and they lived there for about 5 years before moving up to Oregon together.
