The Goose Hollow neighborhood in Portland sits west of downtown and just south of Burnside street. The neighborhood is more residential than some of the other neighborhoods in Portland, but is certainly not lacking in attractions, restaurants and things to do. Goose Hollow is still very walkable, with downtown being only a few blocks down the hill and NW Portland being right over Burnside.

The homes in Goose Hollow are absolutely gorgeous, but there are many great apartment buildings and condos as well. Goose Hollow has a great school district, with Lincoln High School, one of the highest rated in Portland, right in Goose Hollow. The Multnomah Athletic Club, known as the MAC, is one of the most exclusive and expensive sports and social clubs in the city and is right in the heart of Goose Hollow.

Whether you want to explore the classic architecture, take in a soccer game or grab a bite and a beer, you can do it all in Goose Hollow.

Attractions

Providence Park

Providence Park has been called many things over the years- originally Multnomah Stadium, and then Civic Stadium, PGE Park and Jeld-Wen Field. Whatever you call it, Providence Park is one of the most popular sporting venues in the city. It is currently home of the Portland Timbers, our professional soccer team. The games there are great, and everyone who attends has the absolute best time.

Historic Homes

Although not an actual attraction per-se, one of the most fun aspects of Goose Hollow is walking or driving around and checking out the amazing homes in the area. Goose Hollow is in an ideal location in the city, situated right above downtown, but with a slightly more suburban feel. This has made the area a popular destination for Portland elite, which is reflected in the gorgeous homes and the high price tags. Checking out the homes in Goose Hollow is the perfect addition to a walking tour of Portland.

Rose Garden

The International Rose Test Garden is one of my very favorite places in Portland. This time of year is not so ideal (although on a clear day there are still great views of Portland!!) but during the summer it is absolutely gorgeous. There are so many different types, colors and scents of roses, great views, and lots of areas to picnic or rest. They also have concerts and other events, as well as a few surrounding memorials.

Japanese Garden

The Japanese Garden is another beautiful feature of Portland. It is places like this that make me feel so lucky to live in such a gorgeous city that is focused on nature. The Japanese Garden is full of maple trees, cherry trees, sand gardens, ponds and other beautiful plants and attractions. Despite being just barely outside of the city, the peacefulness and tranquility is hard to beat.

Restaurants/Bars

Goose Hollow Inn

The Goose Hollow Inn is a classic Portland restaurant, situated in one of the oldest neighborhoods in Portland. It is homey and comfortable, and even if it is your first time visiting the staff will make you feel welcome and like a regular. Although I've never been able to have it, everyone I know agrees that they make the best reuben ever. I'm fond of the pizza sandwich, but no matter what you get you will leave full and happy.

Leaky Roof Gastro Pub

The Leaky Roof's motto is "where high end casual meets neighborhood comfortable" and the description fits the vibe of the restaurant perfectly. The Leaky Roof started as a food cart in 1947 but is now happy to be a vibrant part of the Goose Hollow neighborhood. The food is updated comfort food and as such will please the most timid eaters to more high end diners. Bon appetit!

Gilda's Italian

Some of my good friends used to live in the apartment building on top of Gilda's, and they ordered the amazing Italian food to go quite often. After hearing about it for months I finally visited, and was not disappointed by their tasty pasta dishes, great appetizers and large wine selection.
